The History of Aerocom

From our humble beginnings in a modest 3,500 sq ft warehouse in central England, Aerocom Metals has now expanded to a 25,000 sq ft corporate HQ in Coventry, with representation in India, Malaysia, China, Japan, Greece, Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria. Aerocom Metals’ original competence was in the high strength steel tube sector, supplying tubes for restoration projects including Spitfires and Hurricane fuselages, roll over protection systems for race cars, and modern day commercial aircraft interior structures.
The high strength steel tube market still remains at the heart of the business today. Aerocom Metals are proud to be market leaders in products such as 4130, BS4 T45 to BS5T100, 2024, 6061 and S515 sheet. However, growth within the aerospace OEM markets has seen demands push back to the distributors to hold stocks and supply JIT, leading to a decision in 2010 to utilise our existing supply bases and manufacturing mill relationships to push further in the American AMS (aerospace material specifications). This meant an investment program expanding into bar, sheet and plate stocks along with tube.
As a result, Aerocom Metals now holds dynamic stock ranges in the following grades. (See Table Below.) The larger movement to JIT and straight-to-production for our core aerospace clients has also led to investments in our sawing centre, which now includes five bandsaws, one tube saw and guillotining. As of late 2012, Aerocom Metals held over 250,000 ft of aerospace tubing, 110 tonnes of aerospace aluminium, 10 tonnes of aerospace titanium, and 15 tonnes of aerospace stainless, all off the shelf in Coventry.
